Finding a job is child's play
Hull has been chosen as one of ten areas in the country to offer advice about jobs and training through its children's centres.
Parents can already access a wide range of advice and services at the city's 19 children's centres, including family activities and play groups and advice for parenting and healthy living.
But in a pilot project, called 'Choices Make a Difference,' three of the centres will be staffed by personal advisers, who will offer advice to parents about finding jobs and training.
"We welcome the chance to do more to help parents in the city to move into employment," said Nigel Richardson, director of children and young people's services at Hull City Council.
"This type of activity is critical to the development of the city as a whole and to the life chances of our children."
The centres taking part in the pilot, which will run until March 2011, are:
- McMillan Children's Centre, on 21st Avenue, north Hull
- Fenchurch Children's Centre on Fenchurch Street, off Beverley Road
- Estcourt Children's Centre on Estcourt Street, east Hull
The project is being funded as part of a government strategy to address child poverty.
Partners include Jobcentre Plus, the local NHS, the new Community Legal Advice Centre, and Hull and East Yorkshire Credit Union.
