Twenty years for lollipop Linda
A school lollipop lady has celebrated 20 years of helping school children safely cross the road.
Turning out in all weathers, Linda Bromby has worked the same zebra crossing, near Eastfield Primary School, on Anlaby Road – and she's never seen a single accident.
"The volume of traffic has increased over the years, but the majority of motorists do stop when they come up to the crossing," said Linda, whose own children, now grown-up, went to the school.
She added: "It's good to the children's smiling faces in the morning – it makes it well worth while." To mark Linda's contribution to their safety, pupils and staff from the school held a special assembly at which they presented her with flowers and cards.
Each class also put together a book of poems, pictures and thank-you messages.
"It's quite a remarkable achievement," said Jo Thoresby, from Hull City Council's school crossing patrol team, which presented Linda with a certificate, badge, and bouquet of flowers.
"You have to be dedicated and be able to plan your day carefully around two short work sessions."
School crossing patrol operatives are needed across Hull.
