John and Jane's night in Paris
Husband and wife playwrights John and Jane Godber will star in the new production of April in Paris at Hull Truck Theatre.
The couple, who co-wrote the stage plays Shakers and Sold and won a BAFTA for the TV drama Oddsquad, have only acted together twice before.
One of those occasions was in the original production of April in Paris, written by John for the Hull Festival in 1992.
"Although it was written nearly 20 years ago, it sounds like it could have been written last week," says John, who is the third most performed playwright in the English language.
"Jane and I saw it performed at Swanland Village Hall last year and that prompted us to do it ourselves."
The story follows the journey of Al, an unemployed builder, and his wife Bet, who win a holiday to Paris for one night.
As they see the sights and sample new food and art, they learn as much about each other and their marriage as they do about France.

Recipe for success: The stage play Cooking with Elvis is one ingredient in a mouth-watering
spring/summer season at Hull Truck. The season starts with the theatre's first-ever food festival on 7 March, with demonstrations from celebrity chefs James Martin and Nigel Brown (pictured cooking with Elvis). |
The play (running from 4 - 27 March) is the start of a mouth-watering spring/summer line up at Hull Truck, which includes the black comedies Loot and Cooking with Elvis, plus another Godber classic, Lucky Sods.
There are also more than 50 smaller visiting shows, including comedians, musicians, speakers and children's shows.
Highlights include a Tommy Cooper tribute show, family fun with Charlie and Lola and the launch of events marking the 25th anniversary of the death of poet Philip Larkin.
"We feel there's something for everyone and hope even more people will come to experience live music and performance," says artistic director Gareth Tudor Price.
"There's an enormous variety of visiting acts, some quite experimental and different for Hull Truck."
