Rio Stieson stars in one of the emergency planning DVDs which has been distributed to local schools. Hull City Council's emergency planning educational characters look on |

School pupils Evie Arthur (10) and Rio Stieson (15) are the stars of two new DVDs which help young people prepare for emergencies.
It's over two years since Hull's devastating floods, when 36,558 schoolchildren were affected in their homes and schools.
Now, to ensure children and young people and their families can plan ahead and stay safe in future emergencies, the two DVDs have been distributed to primary (starring Evie) and secondary (starring Rio) schools across the city.
They give pupils tips on having their own household emergency plan and keeping ICE 'in case of emergency' numbers to call in their mobile phones.
"Life's not always predictable, but the council, the emergency services and our other partners have plans in place in case something unexpected arises," says Judith Harwood, the council's head of learning, leisure and achievement.
"The DVDs get the message across in a fun and informative way to help pupils feel confident that if an emergency does occur they would know how to help themselves."
Children and young people can also enter a competition based on what they learn from the DVDs and have a chance of winning a laptop.
Completed entry forms should be returned by the closing date of 12 April to Get Ready Competition, Room 45, Guildhall, Alfred Gelder Street, Hull HU1 2AA.
Entry forms can be picked up free from libraries and customer service centres, and the DVDs can be borrowed from any Hull library.
