Fund-raising push
Last year's Hessle Road Carnival and Pram Race raised £25,000 which will now be spent on community activities in the area.
The race is a modern twist on a Hessle Road tradition dating back to the 1920s when wives would run along the street pushing their children in prams to wave goodbye to their husbands going to sea on North Sea trawlers.
The race, in September, had adults dressed as babies in the prams which were pushed by young people.
"The pram race was a fantastic event – more than 3,000 people came along to watch and it really brought the community together," says Kim Hepple, one of the race organisers.
Of the total amount raised, £15,000 will be distributed as grants to community organisations for which the deadline was the end of February.
There was a diverse mix of applications, ranging from a riding project for disabled children to a Bollywood dance group.
The remaining £10,000 (plus an additional £10,000 grant from the Wooden Spoon charity) will be spent on a young people's community sports programme for Hessle Road to be held throughout the year, featuring boxing, boxercise and rugby.
This year's race takes place on 18 September.
