Awards make some drama
The Platform 2 Success project is run by young people and is for young people.
It is a scheme aimed at helping fund new hobbies or interests for young people in Hull aged between 0 and 19.
There are two parts to the scheme: One side can provide up to £120 towards initial lessons or can help pay for equipment used for hobbies that some young people would otherwise struggle to pay for.
The other side of the project offers rewards to young people who have been nominated in recognition of them going above and beyond their expected targets or grades at school or for overcoming barriers in their lives.
These rewards have a limit of £30 and are often given out in voucher form.
Becky was nominated for an award to help fund her interest in drama and the arts.
Becky takes part in drama classes where she studies and performs drama monologues and plays.
Becky was awarded £50 through the scheme and used the money to buy scripts and monologue books.
She has used these books to help find a drama monologue that she is going to perform for her college audition, where she hopes to study English, Drama and Theatre studies.
"Being nominated for an award has helped me progress further with my hobby and the books will really help me when I start my course in September".
Becca also has a keen interest in reading.
She was nominated for an award to help pursue this hobby further.
Becca received book vouchers to the value of £50 and with them she was able to purchase books by her favourite author which include: Margaret Mahy's 'Maddigans Fantasia' and 'The Night World Collection'.
"I can be in a room full of people, but when I'm reading I feel as though I'm the only person there".
All applications are put before a panel of young people who make decisions on whether awards are given.
They have funded lots of varied hobbies such as; Gymnastics lessons, Karate lessons and Ice Skating lessons.
If you are a council employee and would like to nominate a child/ young person you are working with, please contact Lisa Billany at RAPP on 01482 225855 or email platform2success@hullcc.gov.uk
