Call for carers

#

Fifty more foster carers are needed in Hull this year to provide safe and caring homes for children in need.
And it's hoped they will be recruited during Foster Care Fortnight, which began on May 14.
The fortnight will highlight the important work of foster carers.
There are currently 170 fostering families in the city who look after 288 local children, and help provide the security they need to make a good start in life.
Brenda Newman and her daughter Jessica Whitehead (pictured) featured in the March edition of Hull in print and between them, in their separate families, they have fostered more than 140 children over the years.
"You can really make a positive difference to a child's life and for me that's something really important," says Brenda.
Foster carers need to be patient, understanding and have a genuine commitment to make a difference to a child's life.
Carers must also be over 21 and have a spare bedroom at home.
As well as training and ongoing support, foster carers receive an allowance to cover their costs.

Foster Care Fortnight

To learn more about fostering, call in at Ferens Art Gallery on Saturday May 19, between 10am and 4pm or at the Portland Hotel, Paragon Street, on Tuesday May 22, between 6pm and 8.30pm.
Foster carers and Hull Fostering staff will be on hand to answer questions at both of these open information sessions, organised for Foster Care Fortnight which will end with a family fun day in Queen's Gardens on Saturday May 26 (11am to 3pm).
An information pack about fostering can be obtained by ringing 300300 or emailing fostering@hullcc.gov.uk
