Dog warden service

#

Responsibility for dealing with stray dogs has now transferred from Humberside Police to Hull City Council.
The council will respond to requests for assistance with strays through the 300300 contact centre.
The council's dog warden service will attempt to locate and collect any stray dog seen wandering the streets from 8am to 10pm on Mondays to Fridays.
Outside these times, the service can only collect stray dogs where the caller knows the exact location, a dog that has been confined in their home or garden for example.
To make sure your dog does not become a stray there are several steps you can take. The dog warden service offers:

  • A microchip service at a subsidised price – the chip is inserted under the dog's skin to identify lost dogs and reunite them with their owners.
  • Dog neutering at a subsidised price – this prevents unwanted litters.
  • General advice about keeping and training dogs. Talks are also given to school and college groups to help people understand the problems with strays and how they can be avoided.
