Sign up for flood alerts

If you live in a flood risk area you may be able to register for a free service called Floodline Warnings Direct which provides flood warnings by telephone, mobile, fax or pager.
More and more homes are signing up to the service, which is run by the Environment Agency, the Government body set up to protect the environment.
The service warns residents before a flood happens (or as soon as information is available from the Met Office) so that emergency preparations can be made.
To find out if your home is eligible for the service call the Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
You can also find out a great deal about preparing for flooding on the Environment Agency's website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk.
There are tips on what to do during a flood as well as information on flood defence products, approved by the Environment Agency, which can reduce damage.
You can also check current flood warnings in force, plus find out how flooding could affect your home insurance, and use the special flood map to check the likelihood of flooding in your area.
If you haven't already received a free booklet from Hull City Council about how to prepare for flooding and other major emergencies, call 300300.

For more advice on emergency planning visit www.hullcc.gov.uk or call 300300
