Tomorrow's climate today's challenge

Have you ever thought that the summers are getting hotter?
Do you remember the terrible floods in York only a few years ago?
We're told climate change is happening - and that it will have a big effect on the way we live. Hull in print took to the street to get your views.

Joshua Hunter, 16, a Hull College student from Greenwood Avenue, Hull:
"In a way it's a bit of a worry, because in about 50 years time Hull will be flooding and I might want to stay here. People should stop using cars and think of cleaner, more environmentally friendly ways to travel. If we work together, we can make a change for the better."

*

Ivor Godfrey, 55, a medical representative from Hessle:
"Global warming to me means an improvement in the environment - but it's still something that concerns me. I think one has no control over nature, but if we can do something to improve things for the next generation, then we should do it."

*

Terry Tanser, 68, retired Capper Pass worker, of Gipsyville:
"I don't think Hull flooding is a concern; we've got the tidal barrier and it's worked well so far. We can only do so much to affect the environment. However, there will come a time when people will have to do more to help the environment."

*

Michael Wood, 52, East Riding Town Crier, from High Street, Hull:
"I'm worried about global warming because I like going abroad for holidays and I wouldn't want aeroplanes being taken out of the air.
We're taking part in this recycling programme and I'm really into it.
People will start taking more care about the environment if the Government punishes them for being careless about things like waste. I think we need to be scared into action a bit more."

*

Georgiana Koroma, 23, a mother, from Telford Street, Hull:
"To me it's all about the ice caps melting. Global warming is something that worries me. You see people with four or five cars on their drive or one person driving a car that can seat five or six - it's wrong. I think we can all play our part to protect the environment by carefully choosing cleaning products and recycling more. When I think of global warming, I think of my little one and the future generation."

*

Lou Duffy-Howard, 35, Wilberforce 2007 Community Manager, who works in Hull:
"We are really trying hard to reduce our effect on global warming. We recycle regularly and we've got a water butt in the garden, as well as a composter. We're also trying to teach the children how to recycle and they teach us at the same time. We've even tried using washable nappies."
