Christmas starts here
This year's Christmas Lights switch on takes place on Sunday 18th November at 5pm in Queen Victoria Square
It traditionally takes place on a Thursday evening - but this year's lights switch-on is happening on a Sunday afternoon.
One thing that hasn't changed with the annual event, however, is that it will involve plenty of fun-packed Christmas entertainment for all the family.
Organised by Hull City Council in partnership with Viking FM and the BID partnership, the event is expected to attract thousands of people.
The fun begins at 12 noon at various city centre locations, including Queen Victoria Square which will be a hive of activity featuring bands, street entertainers, balloon modellers and stilt walkers.
And Santa Claus himself will be on a parade beginning at the Hull City Hall and touring the main shopping areas.
The festivities on stage at the city hall will begin at 3.30pm.
The lights will be switched on by Lord Mayor Cllr Brenda Petch, with help from Santa and special guests at 5pm.
The event will end with a spectacular firework finale.
Catch the spirit early
Hull City Council is organising a number of events in the build up to Christmas, including a free Victorian Christmas event at the Museums Quarter on the High Street on December 2.
It will include Santa's Grotto and a Punch and Judy show, plus there'll be inspiration for making your own cards and gifts.
On December 6, the Lord Mayor's Carol Concert takes place at the StreetLife Museum. Hull Choral Union performs Handel's Messiah at the city hall on December 12, and exactly a week later, on December 19, performs its annual carol concert at the same venue.
This year's Christmas pantomime is Jack and the Beanstalk starring Cannon and Ball which starts at Hull New Theatre on December 13 and runs until January 12.
