Things to remember in November

The Tilbury Primary School news crew are all looking forward to celebrating Bonfire Night on November 5th.
We like to celebrate with friends or family or by going to an organised event.
There is a big free event at the Marina in town where you can see lots of fireworks.
It starts at 6.45pm.

Bonfire night safety

Never play with, throw or put fireworks in your pocket.
If you have sparklers make sure you wear gloves and keep them at arms length.
Don't touch the end even after it has gone out as it will still be very hot.
It is always best to let adults light the fireworks.
Make sure there is a bucket of water or sand ready for emergencies.
Never go near or touch fireworks once they have been lit – even if they have gone out as they could still be hot.
Stand well back from bonfires and fireworks.
If you have pets make sure they are kept indoors.
You could close the curtains and put music on so they don't get frightened.

Bonfire night recipe for 'Sparklers'

You need: Chocolate finger biscuits, a small bowl of hot water, a small bowl of sugar strands (hundreds and thousands), greaseproof paper.
Method: Dip one end of a biscuit into the hot water and then into the sugar strands.
Place on greaseproof paper and leave to set.
Take care with hot water and ask an adult first.

Remembrance Day...

...is on November 11th.
This is a special day to remember all the men and women who have died in the two world wars and other conflicts.
As we are in year six – the top year in our school – we visit other classes and sell poppies to help raise money.

Don't forget:

  • November 14th is BBC Children In Need appeal night.
    We all like Pudsey Bear.
There are lots of fun ways your school could help raise money.
  • The Christmas light switch-on is in Queen Victoria Square on November 20th.
    The entertainment starts at 5pm.

Competition

Can you draw Pudsey Bear from BBC's Children in Need? Do your drawings on A4 paper and send them to: 'Pudsey Bear Competition,' Hull Children's Fund, Municipal Buildings, Trippett Street, Hull HU2 8AA.
Make sure you include your name, address and age.
The closing date is November 28th.
The winning entry will receive a prize.

Just for fun
