School plans move forward

#

Adelaide primary pupil Mylot Atkaye (5) is the face of Hull's BSF programme

The search is on to find the private sector partner which will help deliver Hull's £400 million Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project.
The project will rebuild or remodel all of Hull's secondary and special schools over the next few years to transform learning and improve pupil achievement.
Following two years of planning, the project was given the green light by the Government in August.
As part of the next stage of the project, 32 representatives, all from large construction companies, attended a 'bidders day' at the KC Stadium in order to express their interest in the programme.
"Meeting the potential bidders, it was clear that there was a recognition of the ambition of the BSF project in Hull," said Cllr Mike Ross, portfolio holder for lifelong learning.
"They also saw the real potential in the city and I was pleased we had companies of such high quality interested in the scheme."
David Martin, BSF project director, said: "Bidders will be judged on their ability to deliver innovative and cost-effective designs for schools.
The outcomes of the project will benefit children and young people for generations to come."
A preferred partner will be chosen towards the end of 2009, with building work to begin in 2010.
