Make it happen
This month a number of special events will be held for primary and secondary school pupils to show them how success in business is a realistic, achievable, and highly satisfying goal.
It's all part of Hull's contribution to Global Entrepreneurship Week which takes place from 16 - 20 November.
As Hull slowly recovers from the recession many people across the city are still finding it extremely tough to find work and make ends meet, and this is why business, enterprise, and wealth creators are so important for the economic well being of our city.
We need Hull to be a place of business confidence and young entrepreneurs who leave school and go on to become self employed (such as our front cover star, florist Amanda Hartley) are great examples of what can be achieved and how young people can take their future into their own hands and make a success of it.
You can read more about the week on pages 16 and 17.
One reason why some young people fail to fulfil their potential is because of bullying.
Anyone who has been the victim of bullying will know how it can destroy the confidence of young people and affect their school attendance and GCSE exam results, which of course, have an important bearing on what they do when they leave school.
I am glad to say that some highly imaginative and creative ways of tackling bullying, and supporting the victims of bullying, are available in Hull and you can read more about this on pages 10 and 11.
Meanwhile, I hope as many people as possible in and around Orchard Park use the new Orchard Centre, which opens on 7 December.
It will be a comfortable and convenient new facility with health services including doctors and dentists, a Hull City Council customer service centre, and more, under one roof.
Finally, every month at Hull in print we try to offer a lively mix of news and features and keep you informed about to Hull City Council services.
I'm pleased to say the magazine has been shortlisted for a top communications award from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
The winner is due to be announced later this month.
I'll let you know how we got on in next month's edition.
