Don't look down...cleaning Padstow House flats, Bransholme

Multi-storey makeover

It's not a job for the faint hearted or anyone without a head for heights, but high rise flats in Hull are set for a facelift – thanks to cleaners abseiling down the buildings.
Contractors from Blackburn-based C&G Cleaning have previously cleaned the Houses of Parliament and other landmark buildings in London, but over the next few months they will be cleaning Hull City Council's 14 high rise blocks of flats which have external cladding.
Cleaning by abseiling is a precarious job.
Although the technique is the most cost efficient and effective way of getting to the grime on the external cladding, the team is very much at the mercy of the elements, and cleaning only takes place when there is a safe wind speed.
"I am a resident in one of the council's high rise blocks and it has been fantastic to see this unusual way of cleaning the buildings," said Betty Peck, chair of Hull Tenants' and Residents' Forum.
"The difference once they have finished their work is outstanding."
