Platform 2 Success

#

The Platform 2 Success project is run by young people and is a scheme aimed at helping fund new hobbies or interests for children and young people living in Hull aged between 0 and 19.
The scheme can provide up to £120 towards initial lessons or help to buy equipment to enable children and young people who would otherwise struggle to access activities.
Emily was awarded money to start a gymnastics club.
The money also helped her to buy the equipment she needed.
After the initial ten week course Emily moved into the intermediate class where she is doing really well.
Another part of the scheme is for children and young people to be rewarded.
This could be in recognition of them going above and beyond their expected targets or grades at school or for overcoming barriers in their lives.
These rewards have a limit of up to £30 and are often given out in voucher form.
Garry moved into hostel accommodation in 2006 after difficulties at home and as a result his education suffered.
With the support of his hostel worker Garry has recently started a college course and in recognition was awarded vouchers to buy a new PS2 game.
All applications are put before a panel of young people who make decisions on whether awards are given.
If you are a council employee and would like to nominate a child / young person you are working with please contact RAPP on 225855 or email platform2success@hullcc.gov.uk

Look out for more information early next year in Hull in print when the achievements of some of the children and young people who have benefited from the scheme will be highlighted.
