Tackling teenage drinking
A campaign to reduce alcohol consumption among young people has been hailed a success.
More than 200 young people were stopped and spoken to during the campaign, run in the summer by Hull Citysafe, the local crime and disorder reduction partnership.
Alcohol was confiscated from 73 young people, a total of 64 licensed premises were investigated and 99 parents and carers received letters about alcohol safety.
"We want to help young people keep themselves safe but still have fun," said Justine Mortimer, antisocial behaviour manager at Hull City Council.
"We hope that people will continue to take notice of the advice we have given and take advantage of the support that is available to them if they need it."
As this issue of Hull in print went to press, police and youth workers were preparing to speak to young people outside The Welly Club and Tower nightclubs at under-18 nights.
"We don't have problems at these clubs, but where you have hundreds of young people hanging around, some of them will be under the influence of alcohol," added Justine.
"We want to speak to them to build up a picture of why they drink, where they drink and where they get alcohol from."
