Achieving our goals

In just about every walk of life there is a need to set and achieve higher standards.
Hull's football and rugby teams are constantly striving to improve their performances and results on the field of play, to move up their respective leagues.
Shops, restaurants, and businesses of all kinds across the city also work hard to increase their profitability and offer better goods and services to remain competitive and attract more customers.
Teamwork, vision and commitment are the building blocks of success.
They ensure we don't let anything stop us from achieving our objectives.
Here at Hull City Council, we have a duty to constantly improve all our services. Whether it's investing in new schools, caring for the needy and vulnerable, or improving the condition of roads in Hull, you are entitled to expect the best.
And this month, inspectors from the Audit Commission will be in Hull for two weeks, as part of a process called the Corporate Assessment.
From October 9th to the 20th, they will be carrying out a detailed review to see how well we are doing, and how far we have improved.
The inspectors will be venturing into the city to speak to members of the public, voluntary organisations and representatives from the many partners who work with the council - such as police, fire and health authorities - and, of course, interviewing serving councillors and council staff
Although I believe that the council still has a long way to go before becoming an excellent authority, I hope we can show how councillors from all parties - working with staff and the local community - have made the difference for our communities and improved the quality of life in Hull. The findings of the inspection will be published in the new year.
Meanwhile, I hope you enjoy your latest copy of Hull in print and that you are informed and entertained by your read!
