Recycling in Hull is to be given a boost with a brand-new household waste recycling centre.
The centre, currently being built off Wiltshire Road, in Gipsyville, will benefit residents living in the west of the city.
It will allow residents to recycle anything from fridges to furniture, from scrap metal to garden waste - for free.
The new site will complement the city's two other household waste recycling centres, both in east Hull, at Burma Drive, off Marfleet Lane, and Wilmington, near Stoneferry roundabout.
Councillor David Woods, portfolio holder for the environment, said: "Recycling more of our waste is an important part of reducing the amount of waste that we send to landfill.
"The new site will mean less travel time for those who live nearer to Wiltshire Road than the existing two sites." Construction of the development is planned to take around six months, with the site due to open in spring 2007.
As far as possible, it will be built from recycled materials and will be powered by a wind turbine and solar panels - to ensure it's as environmentally friendly as possible.
Hull's target is for residents to recycle more than 45 per cent of household waste by 2010. Currently the rate stands at 20 per cent.
