Be safe be seen #

Children could be at greater risk of being killed or seriously injured on Hull roads if they do not wear reflective or fluorescent clothing, say road safety officers.

As the dark winter nights draw in, officers are reinforcing their message to parents to make sure their children are visible to motorists, especially when travelling to and from school.
The number of children killed or seriously injured on Hull roads has fallen by more than 50 per cent in the last decade - and no children have been killed in the past two years.
Hull is also 'number one' in the Yorkshire and Humber region when it comes to overall road safety.
But council road safety officers say too many children are still being injured in road accidents – and are launching the 'Be Safe Be Seen' campaign across the city in early November.
"The nights are drawing in fast and after the clocks go forward on October 28 it will be almost dark when children leave school," says Dave Shaw, head of Hull City Council's road safety team.
"Children are more vulnerable at this time of year as they are less visible to motorists.
We want to encourage all children to wear something bright and take extra care when out and about near roads.
"Just a simple piece of fluorescent or reflective clothing could save a life."
