You and your money

The Government has launched a new national freephone number to help people who are in debt or finding it difficult to get affordable credit.
Callers will be given information on how to get free and independent money advice in their local area.
People needing affordable credit will also be told how to get in touch with a local credit union that is able to give much cheaper loans than doorstep lenders and loan sharks.
Information will also be available on basic bank accounts.
The service is part of the Government's 'Now Let's Talk Money' campaign which promotes access to free money advice and alternatives to loan sharks and high-cost doorstep lenders for people who are often excluded from mainstream affordable credit.
Talking about money worries is hard, but keeping quiet can make things worse.
The freephone number is 0800 012 1656.
Local organisations wanting to find out more about the campaign should register on the website http://www.nowletstalkmoney.com
