Thrills and spills

#

Another fabulous year of big-thrill rides and more than 750,000 visitors has reinforced Hull Fair's reputation as one of the biggest travelling fairs in Europe.
As this magazine was being delivered to homes and businesses across the city, the fair was reaching its final hair-raising stages.
Held from October 5-13 (not Sunday 7), this year's event included a mile of stalls the full length of Walton Street, and about 350 rides and attractions.
One of the highlights was the Star Flyer ride - making its first appearance on British soil - which gently lifted people 150 into the air for a bird's-eye view of the fairground.
A massive clean-up operation involving more than 100 council staff ensures we can open Walton Street to traffic hours after the fair closes.
