It's still quite mild in October so you can start sowing your spring cabbages and spring onions for next year.
It's not too late to plant Japanese onions which can also withstand the winter and will be ready next spring.
This is the time of year you should be cleaning up your plot, whether it's a small garden or a larger allotment.
Try to dig up weeds on which slugs can lay eggs.
Digging is good because it allows the birds to pick up all the little insects which you or I can't see, like slug eggs.
If you have sprouts and cabbages, take off the yellow leaves at the bottom, and also look inside the centre of your sprouts for little green caterpillars which camouflage themselves and eat away at the plant.
If you've stored up your potatoes for the winter make sure they're in a dark, cool place away from the light.
If you've been affected by blight you must inspect the potatoes every week to see if they're OK.
The first sign of a problem is if one starts to 'weep.'
