Family joy in new home

A west Hull family has gained a fresh lease of life after finding a new home in which they can all live comfortably.
Paul Radmore (27), who has cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy, lived in the lounge of the former family home on Westfield Road.
Hull City Council had helped Paul and his family for many years by providing equipment and adaptations.
As his condition worsened and it became impossible for him to go upstairs, even with a stair lift, it was clear that something greater needed to be done to accommodate his needs.
"We had no family life," said Paul's mum Jane.
"It was a double lounge but there were sometimes two tellies on – Paul's and ours."
Jane and husband Chris had wanted to give Paul more privacy by building an extension for him on their terraced property which they also shared with their two younger sons.
But Hull City Council planners advised it was unlikely to get planning permission because it was too large.
Instead, the council worked with the Radmores to find an alternative solution.
It offered the family the option of renting a three-bedroom council bungalow in nearby Ernest Kirkwood Close.
"The bungalow had just been refurbished after the floods – we were lucky it became available when it did," said housing officer Dave Olsen.
"The council made some adaptations including the installation of two hoists – one to lift Paul into the bath and the other into bed – and the home has now proved ideal."
"It's very spacious and we're all really happy because it works for Paul," added Jane.
