Are your pets chipped?
An east Hull man who thought he had found a friend for life when he took on a stray Alsatian as a pet was shocked to find out the dog already had a loving home.
Lawrence Casey (50) from Kilnsea Grove, learned the news after taking the dog to have it chipped during a community Action Week, when animal wardens discovered the dog had already been chipped and had an owner in Hornsea.
"I received a phone call at home and the owner came and collected him an hour later," said Mr Casey who had bought the dog a collar and paid to have it wormed.
The dog had been taken as a 'stray' from Hornsea beach and had been in the care of two people before being given to Mr Casey (pictured with the dog).
Hull City Council animal wardens, who last year returned 41 pets to their owners as a result of chipping, say the story proves the value of having dogs and cats chipped.
