Beating the bullies

#

Members of the KEY Group

An art competition has been launched for children and young people to create a design for a badge to help raise awareness of 'cyber' bullying.
Whenever a child or young person receives threatening or abusive text messages, emails, or postings about themselves on social networking websites, they have been the victim of cyber bullies.
And to tackle what is believed to be a widespread form of bullying, children and young people who attended a meeting of Hull Youth Parliament came up with the idea for an awareness campaign.
The badge competition was devised by pupils from Hull schools who are members of the Keeping Safe Empowering Youth (KEY) Group, which is backed by the Hull Safeguarding Children's Board.
Badges will be printed and distributed in time for Anti-Bullying Week which runs from 16-20 November.
"Hopefully there will be a great response to the competition as the badges will get an anti-bullying message across and be worn by young people and adults alike," says Katie Roberts, a rights and participation officer with Hull Safeguarding Children's Board.
The competition is open to pupils aged 5-16, and to enter, artwork should be sent to Badge Competition, 47-49 Queen's Dock Chambers, Queen's Dock Avenue, Hull, HU1 3DR by October 20.
