Any old iron?

Residents bring out a fridge for recycling

Remember the old rag and bone man? Well Hull households can again dispose of extra household clutter by bringing it out into the street.
But instead of the traditional horse and cart, the council has organised a convoy of special recycling lorries to visit neighbourhoods. The visits are taking place on special days called "Bring Out Your Recycling and Rubbish Days."
The Garths, on Bransholme, and the Calvert Road area of west Hull, are being visited this month (on September 16 and 23).
More neighbourhoods across the city will be visited next month.
Residents can bring out any items, including those which they might otherwise have had to take to one of the recycling centres at Burma Drive, east Hull or Wilmington, near Stoneferry roundabout.
Anything from fridges to furniture, from scrap metal to garden waste, will be taken away by the lorries and recycled for free. (Residents can also recycle for free at the recycling centres, by the way, in case you miss this opportunity).
As part of the convoy, there will also be a special recycling information bus with recycling officers and members of the City of Hull and Humber Environment Forum. They'll be on hand to answer questions and give people the chance to learn more about recycling.
Cllr David Woods, portfolio holder for the environment, said: "Every one of us has got to take responsibility for helping our environment and safeguarding the future of our planet."
For more information ring 300300.

The 'Bring Out Your Recycling and Rubbish Days' are taking place on September 16 at Abingdon Garth, Binbrook Garth, Cosford Garth, Digby Garth, Enstone Garth, Finningley Garth, Gatwick Garth, Haydock Garth and Ringstead Garth.
And again on September 23 at Aylesbury Grove, Seagrave Grove, Scalby Grove, Lomond Road, Rosedale Grove, Bempton Grove, Lockton Grove.
October dates and streets are still to be confirmed.
