Hull's paralympic gold medal-winning gymnast Susie Pipe was one of a wide range of guests who were invited to a roadshow to illustrate how the region could benefit from the London Olympics in 2012.
The event, which took place at The Deep, was marked by the visit of the London 2012 Roadshow Bus - which had sports minister Richard Caborn MP as its passenger.
Hull City Council Leader Cllr Carl Minns was quick to tell him how the city was Yorkshire's top place for sport.
In a speech to the roadshow guests, Cllr Minns also pledged that the council would help the city's athletes reach gold - just like gymnast Susie who has Down's Syndrome, and won five gold medals at the World Games.
The city's potential medal winners have excellent sports facilities on their doorsteps including at the KC and Costello stadiums, Hull Arena, Hull University and Ennerdale and Woodford leisure centres, said Cllr Minns, who also spoke of the economic benefits for Hull.
He added: "Working with our partners we can use the 2012 games to enhance our economic prosperity, from creating jobs through construction of new sports facilities to welcoming sports tourists, both before and during the games. We will work with local companies to make sure they are aware of the associated opportunities."
