Road to improvement
Some of the city's worst potholes are to be filled in - thanks to an extra £4m of funding to tackle a backlog of road repairs.
Most of the cash has been 'devolved' down to ward councillors, which means they can nominate priority areas for work after hearing from local residents.
Hull City Council made the money available during the summer in a meeting of its cabinet.
It was agreed to set the money aside for highways improvements, and that it would be spent in addition to the council's existing highways budget.
The programme is expected to last 18 months, with work starting this autumn. National Avenue will be the first area to benefit.
National Avenue was proposed by Cllr John Fareham and Cllr Andrew Percy.
It will be treated with a special thin surface to improve driving smoothness, and lessen traffic noise.
Cllr Fareham said: "This highways scheme has empowered us to give residents exactly what they want.
"It's one thing to talk about 'devolving' power, but to back it up with £4m of funds really makes things happen.
"Cllr Percy and I have been looking at National Avenue for some time, and we're grateful for the support we've received from people in the area."
Cllr Mark Collinson, portfolio holder for transport, said: "Local councillors are helping us tackle a £92m backlog of roads repairs.
"I am pleased the Bricknell members responded so quickly. It is just what we want to see - fast action to improve Hull's roads."
