Family’s relief with returned rings

Two precious family rings which were feared lost forever in the floods have been found by workmen.
The rings, a wedding ring and an eternity ring, which belonged to the late Mrs Hilda Finn, of Anlaby Road, were found by a sub-contractor working for Connaught.
Mrs Finn’s son Malcolm, who has sent a thank you letter to the firm, said: “My mum and dad were married for 73 years - so the rings are really special to the family.”
The rings were discovered in an old suitcase at the home of Malcolm’s father – Harold Finn (96) – who his currently in a nursing home after his property was flooded.
They were found by Steve Kipling, from Astral Properties, a subcontractor of Connaught Partnerships Ltd, which is working alongside Hull City Council in helping to repair flood-damaged properties.
“I looked inside the suitcase and there was a ring box so I checked inside that and found the rings,” said Mr Kipling.
Connaught, which provides housing maintenance and estate management services, was originally contracted to work on the city’s Decent Homes Programme to upgrade council homes in the city, yet since the floods its staff have been carrying out flood-repair work such as removing damaged plaster, taking up loose floor tiles, testing properties for dampness and taking away rubbish.
For more on the floods clean-up see pages 12 and 13.
