Transforming Orchard Park
A total of 1,700 new homes will be built on Orchard Park Estate.
Hull City Council beat off competition from other councils across to the country in wining £156 million in government funding for the project.
"It's great news for Orchard Park and the city as a whole," said Cllr Rick Welton, who is responsible for regeneration and housing strategy.
"Our successful bid enables us to help transform the area to reflect the needs and aspirations of local people."
All the new homes will be energy efficient. A total of 680 will be council properties, with the rest being for private sale.
"This will improve the quality of life of our citizens, and will also bring wider benefits, including local jobs and training opportunities for local people," said chief executive of Hull City Council, Kim Ryley.
Tenants and residents will shortly be asked to give their views on the regeneration of the area, in order to help steer the preparation of an outline business case, to be presented to government in early 2010. It is envisaged that the first new homes will be ready for residents to move into by 2016.
Meanwhile, the Orchard Park area is also set to benefit from the opening later this year of a brand-new, £14 million state-of-the-art neighbourhood integrated service centre.
The centre, on Hall Road, will house health services and council services under one roof.
The council's other recent successes in winning government funding include a successful bid for £23.4 million to build 120 new extra care places across the city.
