Hull Safeguarding Children Board
Invitation to be considered as a lay member for the Board

Are you involved in local child safety
issues? Can you help us make the links
with community groups? Can you
challenge us to make our policies and
procedures more accessible to the
public, to children and young people?
Comprised of senior professionals from
many partner agencies, the Hull Safeguarding Children
Board (HSCB) is the statutory mechanism for the
safeguarding and protection of children in Hull. It sets out
how agencies should work together to safeguard children
and monitors how well they are doing.
We are looking for members of the public who will act as
independent, yet informed, observers; able to ask
questions which the professionals closely involved in the
work might not think of asking. They will also bring to the
HSCB their understanding and perspective of the
communities where they live in Hull.
Our lay members will operate as full members of the
Board attending the six half-day meetings per year in
Hull. Members will also participate in a small number of
relevant task groups. Appointments will be for two years,
reviewed annually, and we expect a commitment of at
least six days per year. This is voluntary and unpaid
although reasonable expenses for travel will be met by
the Board.
We will provide two days of induction training for those
appointed and you will be mentored by a Board member
for your first six months.
You will not have worked for any of the Board's member
agencies in the last five years.
An enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) clearance
is a requirement of this post. References will be taken up
in advance of interviews.
For an informal discussion please contact Kathy Rowe,
HSCB Manager on 846 082.
Application forms are available by emailing kathy.rowe@hullcc.gov.uk or on request from the telephone number above.
